Kerala Class 8 Results Date Declared: New Passing Rules Introduced 2024-25

The Kerala Class 8 examination results will be announced on April 4, 2025. This year, the state has introduced a new passing rule requiring students to score at least 30% in every subject to move on to Class 9. This change aims to improve academic standards and ensure that students have a solid understanding of their subjects before being promoted.
Students who do not meet the 30% passing mark will get another chance to clear their exams through the "Save A Year" (SAY) exam. This supplementary exam will be held from April 25 to April 28, with results expected on April 30, 2025.
If a student fails the SAY exam, they must repeat Class 8. The previous "All-Pass" policy, which allowed students to move to the next grade regardless of their performance, has been removed. This ensures that students acquire the necessary knowledge before advancing.
To help struggling students, special training sessions will be held from April 8 to April 24. These sessions will run daily from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, focusing on the subjects where students need improvement. The goal is to provide additional support and prepare students for the SAY exam.
Date | Time | Details |
April 8 - 24 | 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM | Focused training on weak subjects |
April 25 - 28 | Exam Dates | SAY exams for failed students |
April 30 | Results | SAY exam results announced |
Previously, students in Classes 5 and 8 were promoted based on the "No Detention Policy." Here’s how the old system worked:
Criteria | Old System | New System |
Promotion Policy | Automatic promotion regardless of exam performance. | A minimum passing mark of 30% is required in each subject for promotion. |
Passing Marks | No specific percentage is required; lenient grading. | Students must achieve at least 30% in all subjects to be promoted. |
Supplementary Exams | No supplementary exams; students were automatically promoted. | Students who fail can take a SAY (Save A Year) exam after training sessions. |
Assessment Method | Continuous evaluation with no strict minimums. | Standardized assessments with clear minimum marks set for each subject. |
Impact on Students | Lower accountability, potential lack of preparedness for future academic challenges. | Higher accountability and emphasis on fundamental understanding before advancing. |
Implementation Timeline | Policies remained largely unchanged for many years. | New rules were implemented starting from Class 8 in the 2024-25 academic year, expanding to Classes 9 and 10 in subsequent years. |
